Being your own boss can be a lot of fun, but also implies responsibility. You can have an office or you can earn money from home. I’m going to give you a few examples of the kinds of jobs you can do from home to make yourself some change.
You can work from home on websites like Fiverr or Upwork (formerly known as oDesk and Elance). You are your own boss and there are zero startup costs. All you have to do is start a profile, indicate your area of expertise, and follow whatever guidelines they give you. For example, in Upwork, you upload a list of your skills and experience, and on Fiverr, you have to offer work than can be done for just $5.00 to start. (You can add extras later so you can earn larger amounts after you’ve been with them awhile.)
You can work at home for big companies like JetBlue and Amazon.com, but you’re usually considered an employee. That means that you’re not necessarily going to have the same kind of freedom and the same kind of potential, but a lot of people work from home in that capacity. People answer phones for the companies and take orders, answer questions, and do customer service.
You can be an affiliate marketer. In this case, you have an affiliate agreement with someone who has products or services to sell. An affiliate agreement is an arrangement for you to sell that company’s items for a commission. You don’t have to create the product, but you promote the product to an email list that you generate according to your brand.
Let’s say you lost a lot of weight, and you really enjoyed a particular product. You can approach that company and enter into an affiliate agreement to sell their products for a commission. Then you reach out to people who want to lose weight, and expose them to the kinds of things this company carries. This is called affiliate marketing.
A lot of affiliate marketers build huge lists of followers, whether via email, social media, or both. And many create their own products, and offer their products as bonuses to anyone purchasing through them. After all, their followers can purchase the products straight from the companies, but if you’re offering a free gift, they’re more likely to purchase through you. They’ll also keep following you if you’re generous and helpful that way.
A lot of people don’t want to be their own boss because they’re afraid of the risks. But in affiliate marketing, you don’t have to invest the same kind of money you would if you created your own store. You don’t need to hire employees or lease a building and pay insurance. It’s very uncomplicated if you’re working in your own one-person business. Also, if you choose the right company, you’ll get free training and coaching from experts in the business. (An extra bonus: this kind of arrangement can be a lot of fun and help a lot of people!)
I personally chose to align with a terrific company with an amazing track record, plenty of products to choose from, and fantastic training and networking opportunities. Now I not only earn money from home by being my own boss, but I love what I do as well.
